About McKay Brook Resources

McKay Brook Resources Pty Ltd is a Brisbane-based private mineral exploration company focused on advancing high-quality bauxite opportunities in Far North Queensland.

The Company holds three Exploration Permits for Minerals (EPMs) within the established Cape York bauxite province. Its flagship East Aurukun Bauxite Project, located approximately 60 km northeast of Aurukun, represents a strategically positioned development opportunity within one of Australia’s premier bauxite regions.

The west coast of Cape York Peninsula hosts world-class bauxite deposits extending from the Weipa Plateau to the Skardon River and Aurukun. These deposits are typically high-grade, often exceeding 50% Al₂O₃, with comparatively low iron content - characteristics that are highly attractive to alumina refiners.

Geology: The bauxite formed through prolonged lateritic weathering of Cretaceous sedimentary and volcanolithic sequences, creating flat-lying, laterally extensive deposits generally 2–5 metres thick. The mineralisation occurs as cemented pisolitic layers overlying an iron- and kaolin-rich pallid zone, supporting low-strip, surface-mining operations.

Mining: Mining in the region utilises efficient Wirtgen surface miner technology, allowing selective extraction and direct loading of run-of-mine (ROM) material for either beneficiation or direct shipping ore (DSO). The proximity of deposits to the coastline provides favourable logistics and export advantages.

Community: The economic significance of Cape York bauxite has been recognised since 1955, with extensive production by Rio Tinto underpinning Australia’s position as a leading global supplier. Glencore’s new mine at Aurukun creates hundreds new job for local community.

Opportunity: McKay Brook Resources is one of the larger landholders in the Aurukun district, and the Company is well positioned to advance its projects in a globally significant bauxite province with established infrastructure and proven export capability.
